Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she was a retired laboratory technician supervisor; past president of the American Association of University Women Hilo Chapter with leadership positions in the state chapter, board member and past president of the Hawaii County Chapter of League of Women Voters and vice president of the state chapter; advocacy and scholarship committees member of Zonta Club of Hilo; member of local Great Decisions subgroup for the National Foreign Policy Association; member and past treasurer of the United Nations Association, USA, Hawaii Island Branch. Survived by daughters, Charito McFadden of Waiohinu and Elena (Barry) Buyuan of Pahala; sons, Benito (Veronica) Castaneda of Waiohinu, Efren Castaneda and Robin Castaneda of Naalehu; sisters-in-law, Avelina Castaneda of Pahala and Cleotilde Castaneda of Naalehu; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Sadao Okada, 97, of Hilo died April 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a child care provider for PATCH and Malahini Keiki Care and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
